A Visitor’s Exhibition Catalogue, 2011
I invited Publication Studio, a local print-on-demand publisher, to set up their bookmaking system in the lobby of the Portland Art Museum. Museum visitors documented projects and performances occurring throughout the night and collectively produced an exhibition catalogue for Shine A Light. Documentation included cell phone photographs, texts, handwritten notes, and drawings. Each submission was marked with a timestamp in the catalogue. As you moved through the book, you also experienced the chronology of events unfold throughout the night. The catalogue was designed as submissions were received and Publication Studio bound and trimmed the books. By 11 pm we were distributing them back to the contributors. This project was made as part of Shine A Light, a program featuring socially engaged artist interventions throughout the Portland Art Museum.
